George Jacobs was primarily an architect, and he grew up in Boston and attended Harvard College. After serving in World War I, he worked as an architect and joined the American Institute of Architects. By 1930, he was working on several projects in Lake Wales, Florida. He later lived in the small town of Scituate, Massachusetts for over 20 years and was the deputy building inspector there. He later took on the name Jacobssen from his Scandinavian parents. He was not well-known as a graphic artist, but more as an architectural draftsman.
