Ski jumper Hans Marr came in tenth on the normal hill at the 1936 Garmisch Partenkirchen Winter Olympics. In 1930 he won the Thuringia Championship. At the Nordic World Championships he was 18th in 1938 and 13th in 1939. By profession, Marr was a shoemaker. During World War II he attained the rank of Unteroffizier but was killed-in-action somewhere near Minsk, Belarus, in 1942, after skiing into a landmine. After the war, a ski jumping competition in Oberhof was named the Hans-Marr-Cup in Marr’s honour.
