Robert Martin slid for Lake Placid Athletic Club, winning three national championships as a mid-seat in 4-man, from 1933-35, with Curtis Stevens as his driver. In 1935, he and Stevens also slid to the North American 4-man title at Lake Placid. Martin lived in Massena, New York, and worked odd jobs, working at the Stevens House, as a caretaker for various camps in the area, at the aluminum plant in Massena, and at the farm of Dr. F. J. d’Avignon.
