Alberto Egea López was a watercolor painter, cartoonist and illustrator who studied in Caracas. In 1923 the landscape painter left Venezuela for a voluntary exile in the United States to avoid the régime of Juan Vicente Gómez, returning in 1933 and resuming his writing. In 1954 Egea was arrested after criticizing the government of Pérez Jiménez and died from the effects of incarceration a few years later.
