Albert Campbell’s first swimming success was as a teenager when he was part of the 4-man St. James’s Swimming Club (Junior section) that won the juniors race at the East Dulwich Baths in 1896. The following year he was the London junior diving champion at the age of 15, and finished fourth in the London 150-yards Championship in 1899. Campbell was scheduled to take part in the three 200 metre races at the 1900 Paris Olympics, but was a non-starter in all three.
