Michail Nomikos dominated javelin throwing in Greece for more than a decade and would likely have achieved further success had the Panhellenic Championships not been cancelled in several years due to Greece’s involvement in wars. At most of the championships during that era a “Greek-style” javelin throw was held in addition to the standard event. Nomikos was particularly successful in the Greek style, winning the title five times (1908, 1909, 1911, 1912 and 1914). In this event, he also claimed his final medal at these championships, a bronze in 1920. In the standard javelin throw, he won gold in 1914, 1917 and 1919, achieving his best performance of 52.60 m in 1914. Furthermore, he finished second in the stone throw in 1914 and 1917, placing behind Nikolaos Georgantas on both occasions, and took second place in the pentathlon in 1914. Nomikos was entered for both javelin events and the pentathlon at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics but did not compete.
