August Kilart was a Latvian track and field athlete representing the “Union” club in Vindava (now Ventspils) who won the Russian shot put championship in 1910. He was entered as a member of the Russian team for the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm to compete in the shot put and discus throw but did not start.
Kilart worked as a sausage maker in Venspilts, when he was arrested by the secret service NKVD and sentenced in 1942 to eight years in a labour camp for “anti-Soviet agitation”. He died on Christmas Eve 1943 at the Vyatka Corrective Labour Camp near Kirov.
