Velizar Iliev was a modern pentathlete who competed for the United States at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Born in Bulgaria, he won multiple national titles there in modern pentathlon and épée fencing before moving to the USA and becoming an American citizen. Iliev was a three-time World Champion while in Bulgaria. In the United States he won the 1999 Pan American Games.
Iliev became a fencing coach, as a volunteer coach at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas where is also coached the Olympian Fencing Club.
