Rower Manja Kowalski won the gold medal with the German quadruple sculls at the 2000 Sydney Olympics along with her twin sister Kerstin Kowalski-El Qalqili. In 2001, Manja added another gold medal at the World Championships. She was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. Domestically, Kowalski won the double sculls national title in 1999 and the quadruple sculls in 2000 and 2001.
