Bob Merrick won a silver medal in the 470 Class at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, sailing alongside Paul Foerster. Earlier that year they had placed second at Kiel Week in Germany and third at the European Championships, and won the Hyeres Week in France. In 1999 they were US and World Champions in Star, and they also won Kiel in 1998. Merrick later switched to racing Hobie 16s and then F-18s. He was a 1989 graduate of the University of Rhode Island.
