German freestyle swimmer Michael Kiedel swam the heats with the 4x200 free relay but was not on the squad that swam the final at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, when they finished sixth. At the 1999 and 2000 Europeans he won a gold and a silver medal with the 4x200 free relays. In 1998 Kiedel won his only German national titles over 200 and 400 metres freestyle.
