Biography

Italian tennis player Gianluca Pozzi had a lengthy career as a professional, playing from 1984 until 2004. Pozzi achieved a career-best singles ranking of #40 in the world in January 2001 and a doubles ranking of #107 in the world in September 1991. He won his first ATP title in July 1991 at the Hall of Fame Open in Newport, Rhode Island with victory in the doubles with Brett Steven of New Zealand. Two months later he won his only ATP singles title with a straight sets win against Aaron Krickstein at the Queensland Open in Brisbane.

Pozzi made it to the fourth round on two occasions at Grand Slams; the first at the 1994 US Open, and repeating the feat at Wimbledon in 2000. His best doubles performance came at the 1990 Australian Open when he and the American Dan Cassidy made it to the third round. In 2000 Pozzi played in the singles at the Sydney Olympics, beating Jiří Novák in the first round before losing to Karim Alami.
