Born in Seattle in 1971, Nana Miyagi played tennis for Japan throughout her career. Miyagi achieved a career-best singles ranking of #51 in the world in February 1995 and a doubles ranking of #12 in the world in May 1997. As a doubles specialist she won 10 WTA titles and 31 ITF titles from 1988 to 2004. Miyagi won seven medals at the Asian Games, including three golds, with two in the team event and a mixed doubles gold in 1998 with Satoshi Iwabuchi.
In 2000 Miyagi and Ai Sugiyama played in the doubles at the Sydney Olympics, reaching the second round. While she never progressed further than the second round in singles at Grand Slams she reached the doubles quarter-finals on three occasions at the Australian Open (1997, 1998, 2000) and the semi-finals of the US Open in 1993.
