Erik Hansen is the greatest international sprint canoeist produced by Denmark. He competed at four Summer Olympics winning one gold and two bronze medals. At the World Championships, Hansen won five medals, with a gold in K1-1000 in 1963 and silvers in K1-500 in 1963 and 1966, the K1-1000 in 1966 and the K1-10K in 1970. He won 37 Danish Championships between 1958-72. He also added seven medals at the European Championships.
