Hans-Viggo Knudsen competed at two Olympics, placing ninth in K-2 in 1964, alongside childhood friend Preben Jensen, and also finishing ninth in the 1964 K-4 event. Knudsen trained as a carpenter and later became a construction engineer. Knudsen worked on a project in Greenland in the early 1970s and met a local woman whom he married, and they settled in Sisimiut. He became co-owner of an engineering firm, Permagreen, which managed many large projects in Greenland. Knudsen developed pulmonary fibrosis in later years and then became infected with coronavirus during the COVID-19 pandemic, from which he succumbed.
