Biography

A center-forward, Heather Moody was a two-time Olympic water polo medalist, winning silver in 2000 and bronze in 2004. She won a gold medal at the 2003 World Championships and 2003 Pan American Games. She was on the US National Team from 1996-2004. Moody played in college at UC Santa Barbara and then transferred to San Diego State University. In 1999 and 2001 she was named the USA Water Polo Player of the Year. She played for the New York Athletic Club and helped them win the 2002 USA title.

Moody became a water polo coach, becoming interim head coach of the US Women’s National Team in 2005 when Bill Barnett and the team could not agree to a contract. Moody coached the USA team at the 2005 World Championships, leading them to a silver medal, and then took over as the team’s assistant coach at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games.

In college, Moody started coaching at Long Beach Community College and San Diego State University. She later served as an assistant at West Community College and Cal State Long Beach, before becoming the head women’s coach at American River College in Sacramento, California. In 2010 she was named head coach of the US Junior National Team. Moody was inducted into the New York Athletic Club Hall of Fame in 2007, one of the first women so honored. In 2010 she was inducted into the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame.
