Frank Masley was the 1980, 1983, and 1984 US doubles luge champ, with Ray Bateman. In all, Masley won 10 US titles. He graduated from Delaware Tech Community College in 1981 with an associate degree in civil engineering, and later earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Drexel University. Masley later formed his own company, Masley Enterprises, that markets and sells products they have invented or produced. Among these are special gloves for the military allowing them to control their weapons better, and gloves for cold-weather conditions. Masley also designed a starter luge track at Muskegon, Michigan. Masley was honored in being selected to carry the United States flag at the 1984 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony. He competed in three Winter Olympics and his 12th place finish in singles luge in 1980 was the best finish by a US slider until Duncan Kennedy’s 10th in 1992. Masley died in 2016 at his Wilmington home from complications of melanoma.
