Former discus thrower, decathlete and sprinter Martin Meinberg took part in the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics as a bobsleigh athlete and finished 10th with the West German four-man bob of pilot Alois Schnorbus. He also won gold medals with the four-man bob at the 1977 Youth European Championships, and in 1978 with both the two- and four-man bobs. After his sports career he coached handball club FC Schalke 04. He was a lawyer specializing in tax and criminal law by profession.
