Miroslav Nový played ice hockey for just over a decade with several domestic clubs in the Czechoslovak league. Nový was a good player who represented Czechoslovakia in 40 international matches. His first major tournament came in 1952 when he competed at the Oslo Olympics, where the team finished fourth. The Games served as both the World and European Championships, with Czechoslovakia winning silver at the latter as a result. Two years later he was part of the national team that won bronze at the 1954 European Ice Hockey Championships in Stockholm. In the 1970s Nový became a coach, working with teams in both Poland and Czechoslovakia.
