Hans Ott

Hans Ott was born in Bern, the son of a locksmith and machinist. Playing the position of right wing, he began his ice hockey career in his hometown alongside his brother Ladislaus, first playing for Rot-Blau Bern in the Swiss National League B. The two brothers later played for SC Bern from 1951 to 1956, making international appearances at the World Ice Hockey Championships in 1952-53, 1953-54 and 1954-55. In 1956, Hans was selected for the Swiss Olympic team to compete in the men’s ice hockey tournament at Cortina d’Ampezzo. There, he registered one goal in five games; the Swiss team would finish ninth in the final standings.

Following the Olympics, Ott played the next few seasons for EHC Grindelwald alongside his brother, then took up a playing coach position in Steffisburg in the early 1960s. His last stop in his hockey career was in 1965-66 with the club he began his career with, EHC Rot-Blau, once again playing alongside his brother. Ott was a mechanic by profession. He married Rosmarie Kurth in 1954.
