Jon Owen competed in luge in the late 1980s. He was the first person to slide on the Park City track used for the 2002 Winter Olympics. Owen later became a development coach for USA Luge, and later as Western Regional Coordinator for USA Luge centered in Park City. In 2003, he also developed a luge sled for the disabled.
