Fred Pearson attended Yale, after prep school at the Appleby College School in Oakville, Ontario and then at the Hotchkiss School. While at Yale he played hockey and football, his most memorable game coming in January 1946 when Yale’s skaters defeated Dartmouth, snapping the Big Green’s 45-game winning streak, 6-4, with Pearson scoring two goals. His years at Yale were interrupted by World War II, during which he served as a pilot in the Eighth Air Force, flying B-17’s out of England over Germany. Pearson later became an advertising executive, first in New York, and then returning to the Boston area, where he worked for Channel 38, for many years the station broadcasting his beloved Boston Bruins. A lifelong bachelor he was active into his 80s, hiking with the Appalachian Mountain Club, cycling for exercise, and continuing to play senior hockey, a left wing with the North Shore Skating Association, until he was 83, scoring a hat trick in his final game.
