In 1959 Slovenian ski jumper Marjan Pečar won the Kongsberg Cup in Switzerland, before having a victory in the members’ competition of the Alpine Ski Association in Ljubljana the following winter. Throughout the 1960s Pečar was a regular member of the Yugoslav team at the Four Hills Tournaments. In 1962 he joined the Yugoslav People’s Army, but he suffered a broken leg during his military service. After a lengthy rehabilitation programme, he returned to the sport, including competing in both the normal and large hill events at the 1968 Grenoble Olympics.
