Robert Pidacks was born in Maine to Lithuanian immigrants, and after prep school at Gould Academy, he would graduate from the state school, the University of Maine, in 1951, where he studied forestry. After the 1952 Winter Olympics he served in the Korean War, but also competed at the 1954 World Championships. He continued to compete in local races in Maine through the 1960s. He is a member of the University of Maine Sports Hall of Fame and the Maine Ski Hall of Fame.
