Biography

Defenseman Zdeněk Pýcha got his start in senior level ice hockey with Stadion Praha during the 1945-1946 season, and then joined HC Sparta Praha, where he remained through 1950. From 1950 through 1956 he skated for HC ATK Praha and was runner-up in the Czechoslovak First Ice Hockey League in 1952. He had one final season with Tatra Smíchov prior to his 1957 retirement. As a member of the national squad, he represented Czechoslovakia at the 1952 Oslo Olympics, where the nation placed fourth overall. Pýcha played in five of the team’s nine matches, which were his only international caps.
