Rod Paavola was from Hancock, Michigan and played most of his hockey with the Portage Lake Pioneers. His only international appearances came at the 1960 Olympics, when he and Bob Owen skated a shift together as defensemen, and at the 1959 World Championships. Paavola also played club hockey for the Muskegon Zephyrs from 1961-63. He was later a player/coach for the Portage Lake Pioneers.
