Gerald Ressmann played ice hockey as a right wing with the Austrian team at the 1994 Lillehammer, 1998 Nagano, and 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. The team was eliminated in the group stage in 1994 and finally placed 12th and last, after losing the match for 11th place to Norway 3-1. Four years later at Nagano the team again placed last and 14th, and in 1992 they came 12th out of 14. Ressmann won 79 international caps and scored 22 points (10+12).
Domestically, Ressmann played with Villacher SV, Wiener (Vienna) EV, EC Klagenfurter AC, and Wiener (Vienna) Capitals. He became a four-time Austrian champion with Klagenfurt (2000-01, 2004) and Villach (1993). He later obtained his coaching diploma and coached EC Klagenfurter AC, EHC Lustenau, and EHC Althofen.
