Biography

From 1958 to 1969 Finland’s Matti Reunamäki spent his entire domestic career playing ice hockey for KooVee in Tampere. Reunamäki played 178 matches for the team including captaining the side when they won the Finnish championship in 1968. At a national level he represented Finland in 113 matches, including four editions of the World Cup and two Olympic Games. At the 1964 Innsbruck Olympics the Finnish team placed sixth. Four years later at the Grenoble Games Finland went one better to place fifth, with Reunamäki captaining the team.

After his playing career Reunamäki worked as a coach for KooVee and another local club Ilves. He also worked as the head coach of Finland’s junior ice hockey team, including at the 1974 European Championships. Reunamäki was inducted into the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame in 1986.
