Biography

The Korean born Lee Seong-Deok won two distance events at the 1933 All Japan Speed Skating Championships and based on this, also the all-round championship, while attending the Dong-A Commercial School. In the following year, he clinched the title in the 1,500 m, when he was already a student at Waseda University, and placed second in the all-round. At the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Lee competed in all four events with his best place (16th) in the 500 m. During his trip to the Olympics, he also competed at the European Championships in Oslo. After the liberation of Korea, he lived in Seoul and later served as chairman of the Korean Ice Skating Federation.

Personal Bests: 500 – 44.1 (1938); 1500 – 2:28.9 (1936); 5000 – 9:06.5 (1935); 10000 – 18:50.3 (1936).
