Paul Savage went to AuSable Forks High School, graduating in 1954. He then became a boxer, winning the New York-Vermont heavyweight championship in 1956, and consecutively from 1958-61. He was also New England Golden Gloves heavyweight champion in 1961, and went to the quarter-finals of the AAU boxing championship as a heavyweight. In bobsledding, he was an alternate to the 1964 Olympic team, in addition to his 1968 Olympic appearance. Savage ran a restaurant in the Adirondack region.
