Viktor Shalimov played most of his career in Spartak Moskva, from 1969-76. With Spartak Moskva Shalimov won one Soviet title (1976) and was twice the runner-up at the European Champions Cup, in 1970 and 1977. He was the highest scorer at the 1976 Soviet Championships with 53 points, and was also selected as a part of the best line of the Soviet Championships in 1976 and 1980. Shalimov ended his playing career by playing three seasons in Austria – from 1985-87 with Innsbrucker EV and 1987-88 with EC Salzburg. In 1987 he was also the top goal scorer at the Austrian Championships, with 43 goals. Internationally Shalimov won an Olympic gold in 1976 and was a three-time World and European champion (1975, 1981, 1982). He also won silver at the 1976 Worlds and Europeans and bronze at the 1977 World and European Championships. Shalimov was the leading scorer at the 1975 World Championships with 19 points and 11 goals, and was named the best forward at the 1982 World Championships. In 1981 Shalimov helped to win the Canada Cup while taking bronze at the 1976 Canada Cup. After his sporting career Shalimov worked as a coach with Spartak Moskva, was a children’s hockey coach in Moscow, and was one of the founders of hockey school in Mytishchi.
