Aleksandr Skvortsov played most of his career with one club – Torpedo Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod) from 1973-89, but never won a medal at the Soviet Championships. In 1989 Svortsov played one season with Kärpät Oulu (Finland), before finishing his career with HF Kalix (Sweden) in 1991-94. Internationally, besides his two Olympic medals, Skvortsov was World champion three times (1979, 1981, 1983) and European champion four times (1979, 1981, 1983, 1985), also winning a bronze at the 1985 World Championships. In 1979 Skvortsov played on the winning Soviet Union team in the Challenge Cup between the Soviet Union and NHL All-Stars and in 1981 won the Canada Cup, also winning bronzes at the 1976 and 1984 Canada Cup. After his sporting career Skvortsov worked as a hockey coach in Scandinavia and then worked as a coach with Amur Khabarovsk at Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod.
