Biography

A member Of the Worcester Canoe Club at the time, 18-year-old Glenn Palmer, and team-mate Alan Edwards, were selected for the K-2 event at the 1963 World Canoeing Championships in Yugoslavia. The following year the pair won the two-seater kayak title at the national 12-mile river race at Leamington Spa, and a few months later the Worcester pair took part in the Berlin International Regatta.

Shortly before the Tokyo Olympics, Palmer, along with Alistair Wilson, Edwards, and Peter Lawler, beat the Saar Canoe Federation of Germany to win the K-4 title at the Serpentine Regatta in London. At the Olympics the four of Palmer, Wilson, Lawler, and Robert Lowery reached the K-4 semi-final via the repêchage but then finished fourth, and last, in their heat. In 1965 Palmer was in the Birmingham Canoe Club squad that won the K-1 relay title at the British Canoe Championships.
