Walter Steinbauer was a West German bobsledder who competed from the late 1960s to the late 1970s. He won a bronze medal in the four-man event at the Olympics 1972 in Sapporo and also had five podium finishes at the World Championships. In the four-man he was World Champion in 1969, runner-up in 1970, and third in 1971 and 1973, and he placed third in the World in the two-man in 1977. At the European Championships, Steinbauer was World Champion in the four-man in 1970, and runner-up in 1971.
