Biography
Richard Stithem graduated from Steamboat Springs High School in Colorado in 1971, and then attended Northeastern Junior College in Colorado. He started sliding in 1977, but did not compete at his first national championship until 1980. Stithem made the Olympic team in his first attempt at national competition.
