With a father who played for the New York Rangers, it was only natural that Eric Strobel would become a hockey player. Strobel went to the University of Minnesota where he played on the 1979 NCAA champions. He signed with the Buffalo Sabres shortly after the Olympics. He was sent to the Rochester Americans where he played for one month before breaking an ankle. He returned the next year to play briefly in Baltimore before retiring. Strobel returned to college to get his degree. He later became a telephone sales executive.
