Biography

Lars Svensson was the back-up goalie behind Thord Flodqvist for the Swedish national ice hockey team at the early 1950s. Svensson was capped a total of 52 times with the national team between 1949-56 and won an Olympic bronze in 1952, a World Championships silver in 1951 and European titles in 1951 and 1952. He also won European Championships silver in 1956 and bronzes in 1950 and 1955. At the club level, Svensson started to play hockey with UoIF Matteuspojkarna in 1947 and played there until 1952, while from 1952-55 he played with AIK and then finished his career with Hammarby IF from 1955-56. He was awarded the Stora Grabbars Märke (Big Boys’ Badge) #43 in ice hockey, a Swedish sports honorary award created in 1928 by Bo Ekelund.
