East German sprint canoeist Manfred Ehrhardt married hurdler Annelie Jahns in 1970. At Mexico City in 1968 he and Klaus Heinroth missed the Olympic K2-1,000 metres final after being eliminated in the semi-final, despite having easily won their heat. In 1967 Ehrhardt won the East German national K2-1,000 title.
