Alberto Tassotti was one of the first champions of the Carnia region and was the first top cross-country skier from the town of Paluzza. A member of the Italian Alpine troops, he competed at the 1941 World Championships in Cortina d’Ampezzo in the Nordic combined and in ski jumping. After the war, at 29-years-old, he competed at the 1948 St. Moritz Winter Olympics. At the Italian championships he won a bronze medal in the 50 km, and one gold, one silver, and one bronze in the individual Nordic combined.
Tassotti won the Parravicini Trophy eight times, a classic of ski-mountaineering, and he was Italian champion in mountain running with Gaetano Di Centa, father of the Olympic champions Manuela Di Centa and Giorgio Di Centa. In 1965, together with Walter Bonatti and Luigi Panei, Tassotti attempted the first winter climb of the north face of the Matterhorn (Cervino), but they did not reach the summit.
