Biography

French speed skater Michel Thépénier became the national junior all-round champion in 1963, making his international competitive début in the same year. Throughout the 1960s Thépénier competed at multiple European and World all-round championships, recording several top-30 placements. His form was good enough to earn himself a place at the 1968 Grenoble Olympics, where he skated in the 500, 1,500, and the 5,000 metres, placing 30th in the latter. Although never a national champion at the senior level, Thépénier was a four-time runner-up from 1965 to 1969.

Personal Bests: 500 – 42.6 (1968); 1000 – 1:30.0 (1966); 1500 – 2:13.0 (1968); 5000 – 8:00.5 (1966); 10000 – 17:16.3 (1966).
