Biography

Jari Torkki began his hockey career in 1981 with Lukko Rauma and played there until 1996, except a short spell to North America, where he played in the NHL with the Chicago Blackhawks (1988-89) and in the International Hockey League with the Indianapolis Ice (1989-90). With Lukko Rauma Torkki never won a Finnish title, but was runner-up in 1988 and won bronzes in 1994 and 1996. From 1996-98 Torkki played with Star Bulls Rosenheim and then played the next four seasons in Italy with HC Merano (1998-99, 2001-02) and HC Milano (1999-2001). Torrki finished his career in the United Kingdom, where he played one season with Bracknell Bees. Internationally Torkki played with the Finnish national team at two international championships and medaled on both occasions. He won silver at the 1988 Winter Olympics and bronze at the 1987 European Championships.
