Harald Marg was a very successful East German flatwater canoeist. He won six gold, five silver and two bronze medals at the Flatwater Canoe Worlds between 1973 and 1983, mostly in K4. However, he was nominated only once for the Olympics but then won the 1980 gold medal in K4-1,000. From 1977-79 and 1981 he won the East German nationals in K4-500 and from 1978-80 and 1983 in K4-1,000.
