East German flatwater canoeist Andreas Stähle won two Olympic medals at the 1988 Seoul Games. He won silver in the K-1 500 and bronze with the K-4 1,000. He also won three gold, three silver and one bronze medal at the ICF Flatwater Canoe World Championships between 1983-90.
Due to the Soviet-led boycott of the 1984 Los Angeles Games, Stähle could not participate. Domestically, he won four national titles. After German re-unification, Stähle moved to Baden-Württemberg, where he became trainer of the KG Stuttgart.
