Curt van de Sandt was born as a German but was naturalized in the Netherlands in 1921. When the team had an accident during a training run on the Cresta Run, they almost had to cancel their Olympic participation. Van de Sandt had sprained his wrist and Jacques Delprat injured his lower leg. To make things worse, no first-aid kit or any medical care was at hand. Dutch papers had already spread the news about their withdrawal, but were proven wrong when the team placed a respectable 12th. In the following year, Van de Sandt teamed up with the Polish Count Jerzy Potulicki-Skórzewski to race in the Swiss Winter Games in Davos, where they won the championship with a new course record.
Van de Sandt was on the board of directors of a Dutch company, which was engaged in the production and trade of spirits. He married a Greek woman and subsequently served as Greek consul in Wiesbaden, Germany. Later, the couple moved to Genève, where he died only two years after his Olympic appearance.
