Biography

With his two relay golds at the 1984 and 1988 Olympics, Dmitry Vasilyev was more successful at the Olympic Games than the World Championships. At the World Championships Vasilyev won a relay gold in 1986 and relay silver in 1987. Individually his best place at the World Championships was fourth in the 10 km in 1987, while at the Olympic Games, his best individual finish was ninth at 10 km in 1988. Domestically Vasilyev won three Soviet titles, in the 10 km in 1984 and 1986 and in the 25 km military patrol in 1987. Vasilyev later became a board member of the Russian Biathlon Federation and kept his own blog about biathlon.
