Biography

Bobsleigh exponent Hans Volckmar partnered Anton Kaltenberger at the 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Winter Olympics. The pair finished 19th in the two men event. They had both won a bronze medal at the 1931 World Championships, but did not finish at the 1933 Worlds due to two crashes on the first two runs.

Volckmar began his sports career as a versatile track & field athlete, competing mostly in pentathlon and decathlon. He was selected for both events at the 1924 Paris Olympics but did not start for unknown reasons. In 1922 and 1923 he won the Austrian national decathlon title, and in 1922 also won the shot put title.
