Igor Voronchikhin made his international début at the 1964 Olympics, where he won a surprising bronze in the 30 km, was seventh at 15 km and eleventh in the 50 km. He won his second Olympic medal in the relay race, another bronze. Voronchikhin was not included on the 1966 Soviet World Championship team, so he made his next and last international appearance at the 1968 Olympics, placing 31st in the 50 km.
