Yevgeny Yorkin

Throughout his career with the Soviet national team, from 1957-60, Yevgeny Yorkin was never considered the top Soviet goaltender, but was always a back-up to Nikolay Puchkov. When Puchkov decided to retire from the Soviet national team after the 1960 Winter Olympics, Yorkin followed him. Although Yorkin played only 22 games with the Soviet national team, he was always allowed to play one match in every major tournament and so, besides his Olympic bronze, Yorkin won three silvers (1957-59) and one bronze (1960) at the World Championships and three golds (1958-60) and one silver (1957) at the European Championships.

Domestically Yorkin began to play hockey in 1949 in Elektrostal, where he played with three local clubs Khimik, Dvorets Kultury imeny Karl Marksa, and Elektrostal until he switched to Krylya Sovetov Moskva in 1957. He played with Krylya Sovetov until 1964 and then played with Torpedo Podolsk until his retirement from hockey in 1972. Yorkin never won a Soviet title, but was once a runner-up (1958) and won two bronzes (1959, 1960).
