Biography

Karol Zając was a Polish Alpine skier who represented SN PTT Zakopane. Zając competed in the combined event at the 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Olympics where he finished 28th. Two years later he became the Polish champion in the downhill. During his skiing career he also had several podium places at the national championships and competed at the World Championships in 1938. When World War II started he crossed the Tatra Mountains on skis to escape into Slovakia before heading to Hungary. Once the war was over Zając emigrated to England where he studied at Oxford University. During the 1950s he taught psychology at the University of Manitoba before moving to the University of St. Louis in 1960.
