West German men’s single figure skater Richard Zander placed 11th at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. He also participated in the 1985-87 and 1990 World Championships, with a seventh place in 1990 as his best result. From 1985-90 Zander competed at the Europeans and had two fifth places in 1988 and 1990. He was born in Portland, Oregon, and won the German national title in 1987 and 1989, and was runner-up in 1985-86, 1988, and 1990.
